American Girl

Day 6: Today I am thankful to be an American (girl)! I am thankful that I live in a country where I have the right to vote for the leader of our country, for national and state amendments and for other government officials. Most countries in the world can not say that. And many women in many countries are punished and some killed for voicing what they think and what they believe.

My heart was broken to hear the story of Malala Yousufzai, a young girl, teenager even, from Pakistan, who was shot for campaigning and voicing her belief in education for girls. EDUCATION FOR GIRLS! Something, I, my entire life have taken for granted. I went to public school from Kindergarten through twelfth grade and then went on to receive my bachelors at a large University and never once, until now, the last few years in my twenties, realized the amazing privilege that this right here in our country is, to have a free education.

Malala has been campaigning since she was 11, trying to encourage other Pakistanis to take a stand against the Taliban . And now at the age of 15, is lying in a hospital recovering from an attack on her school bus. At 11 and even at 15, I wouldn't have even been able to tell you the importance of education, as I was probably complaining about it, my teachers and homework! And here this little girl is standing up for herself and others. This girl, she will move mountains.

I am so proud to live in this country, to have a voice and to have a voice as a woman. Today go stand up for yourself and VOTE (if you haven't already) I always wait until Election Day to vote, there's just something about it. Something about having "the" sticker on "the" day!

GO,GO,GO!!!!!

Days 3, 4 & 5

Day 3: Today I am thankful for my hometown of Orlando. I love growing up in this entertainment city, it never left for a boring day. There is nothing like going home.

Day 4: Today I am thankful for my Momma! I love going home to spend time with her, chat and have a few laughs. My Mom and I have similar humor (not always appropriate) so when we get together, watch out!

Adam and I went to Orlando this weekend to attend a family friends wedding. We had a marvelous time! Here are a few pictures from the weekend::

Day 5: Today I am thankful for all my Mom's friends. Many of them were second mothers to me while gowing up and have helped shape who I am today. All of them are strong, independent and lovable women. They are always a phone call away and have a special place in my heart!

Happy Monday!

Fall Wish List

Fall Wish List

Ahhhhh Fashion, it makes me happy, especially fall fashion! I live in Florida, so I am sure I just envy fall fashion, because I barely get to wear it. None the less, this is my fall wish list. I have grown up a lot in fashion through my 20's in realizing investing in a few nice pieces and slowly growing your wardrobe is better than buying a lot at one time.

Some of these items I've purchased already:
-The Military jacket - I got mine from Gap, on sale, there is a similar one here
- The black tote - I got off eBay, it is also perfect for travel and my computer can fit inside.

I am in search of a chambray shirt right now. There have been a few here and there that I've seen, but nothing I've fallen in love with. I love how versatile chambray shirts are: under sweaters, with skirts, under tees, or just by themselves. I have one I bought from Target, but it doesn't do what I want it to do.

Peplum is also one of my favorite trends right now. I have a few shirts and a dress that are peplum but this peplum sweater is C-U-T-E!

I wear the same diamond studs everyday. They were a gift from my Dad on my 21st birthday. But i really want a basic, small gold earring and these are precious!

I promise you, I was meant to live somewhere cold. In a cold, big city. Not sure how I ended up in the hottest and most humid state in the country:)

Have a great weekend!

Friday Letters

::Day 2: Today I am thankful for the cool weather we've recently got a glimpse of::

I will be linking up with Ashley of Adventures of Newlyweds on Fridays for "Friday Letters"

Dear Adam :: You are such an inspiration. In a time where your job might be the toughest it's been, you still remain so positive and upbeat. Your optimism is the perfect balance to my worrying-self. I love you.

Dear cold weather :: please stick around, through February please? You didn't visit us at all last year, so I think you owe us a good few months.

Dear Tanner :: I have loved being your personal bitch assistant these past two weeks. Its nice to know you still sometimes need your big sister. Wishing you and your three screw pinky finger a quick recovery.

Dear Kara and Ty :: I am so grateful you two are okay and survived Sandy. I am so sorry your little town of Hoboken was destroyed by this awful storm. So glad you two have each other. Good luck with the car damage estimate today, I'll be thinking of you.

Dear Leah :: Thank you for pushing me to start my blog again, I forgot how cathartic it could be. Thank you for being the greatest friend a girl could ask for. You are loved!

Dear November:: Welcome! You are one of my favorite months and you are the one month that we can all stop and give praise to our lives and show just how grateful we are.

Dear America :: Thank you for being the Land of the Free! On Tuesday we have the right and privilege to reelect/elect a President to lead our country for the next 4 years.... most countries can't say that.

Early Voting ends tomorrow - get out there and exercise your right!

For my Floridians:: the 2000 Florida Election was decided by 537 votes, EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

Happy Friday!

Thankful: Day 1

thank·ful/ˈTHaNGkfəl/

Adjective:
  1. Pleased and relieved: "they were thankful that the war was finally over"; "I was very thankful to be alive".
  2. Expressing gratitude and relief: "a thankful prayer".

I've spent a lot of time soul searching this year and trying to find the 30 year old self I want to be, come May. I have learned along the way just how blessed I truly am, despite the "bad days", "bad weeks" and "bad months" I have.
Last year I joined in on "30 Days To Be Thankful" on Facebook. Everyday in November, my status was something I was thankful for. When one of my closest girlfriends reached out to me and told me to start blogging again, I figured this would be a good time and place to start!

I will start each post in the month of November with 'Today I am thankful for..." regardless if it relates to the post or not! Feel free to do the same!

Today I am thankful for the opening of our new Whole Foods!I was driving 30 minutes to the nearest one every week. I am completely obsessed with this place. I've been to about 8 or 9 Wholes Foods around the country including Seattle, Chicago, and Austin. The idea around Whole Foods makes my healthy living inner goddess, dance on tables the sun!
Just this year, I was brought to reality on whole/clean eating. It has changed my life. More on my healthy living journey later, today I want to celebreate our new Whole Foods! Welcome to the neighborhood!

A Little About Me

Hi:)

I believe knowing who you are following on a blog makes it a whole lot easier to interpret each post and the blog as a whole. So here is a little about me and what you will find on this blog:

*I am a wife, sister, daughter, friend, co-worker and in-law to a great group of people.
*I love fashion, it sometimes consumes me:) I could spend hours on fashion blogs, lost in magazines and wandering clothing stores.
*I love to cook, and I love food.
*I love to talk, and I am, for the most part, an open book, which you will quickly learn reading this blog.
* I have anxiety, bad anxiety and panic disorder.
*I exercise but I don't always love it, I do however love how I feel about myself afterward.
*I absolutely love to TRAVEL!!! My job entails travel, and I don't mind it one bit. There is something so freeing and so much self discovery in travel.
*I am a perfectionist
* I love to organize
*I love family, and I have 2 great sets of family, both mine and my husbands. I hope to one day add to both our families
*I recently discovered I love to read. There is nothing like getting lost in a book/story.
*I love television. Yes, I know, bad "love" but I am part of a TV generation. I've learned to relate to people or characters on TV. I am pretty sure I was an actress or singer in my past life :)
* I love music, and I love to sing, but I'm not good at it. (see above)
* I love animals! I have a sweet little pocket Puggle named Campbell. There is nothing like coming home and getting unconditional love from a creature who thinks you are the bees knees.
* I love holidays. Any holiday. Except Halloween (thank God that ended yesterday) it freaks me out, always has.
*I have a potty mouth but I love the Lord, and ask for forgiveness everyday:)
*I love a big city. I am sure I was put on this planet to live in one, but never have, Maybe someday I will get there!

I plan to add to this list as I think of more likes/don't likes.

This is a lifestyle blog. I will post everything from fashion, and recipes to family, and personal stories. I travel for work and pleasure, so you will get a little dose of my travels as well!

Starting off the month of November, I plan to do "30 Days of Being Thankful". I did this on Facebook last year, so I want to try it on my blog this year. I might not be able to post everyday but I will header each post with what I am thankful each day weather it relates to that days post or not.

That's what I have for now on me. Hope you'll stick around so we can get to know each other better in the blog world!

WELCOME!

Hello there:)

Welcome to The Nest The Laws Built! I started this blog back in June, had a handful of posts, but never made it public, it was only viewed by a few family members and a couple of friends. This year has been a roller coaster for the Laws family, but being that its November, a month of Thankfulness, I decided to start the blog back, make it public and share my life with family, friends, and complete strangers, because I am so thankful for where I am today and who I have around me.
I am so thankful for where I am in life now. I had a friend post the other day wondering whether or not her 18 year old self would be satisfied with her 28 year old self. When I read that I thought, my 18 year old self would be over the moon excited to be 28 (now 29) and be where I am. In fact knowing what 29 would hold for her, there might be some things she disregards along the way knowing the outcome of her next 10 years. (another post on that later)
This blog will be a journal to me, and will document my life journeys. It will start with where I am today, a 29 year old looking back on my twenties and embracing the person I was from 20-29 but finding who I really want to be in my 30's.

Thank you for stopping by The Nest The Laws Built, I look forward to sharing with you!
